Summer in Madrid means movies in the Parque de la Bombilla and this year’s Veranos de la Villa festival features a series that turns different films that might well be classified as guilty pleasures into an artistic experience that goes well beyond what each of its elements - cinema, artistic analysis, humour, music, laughter... - could offer us individually.

The actress Mariona Terés will comment on tonight’s film Sister Act (Emile Ardolino, 1992). Mariona became a household name in 2016 when she starred in Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi’s famous series 'Paquita Salas’. Since landing that role, the Catalan actress has starred in several cult series here in Spain, most recently in the new fictional version of Antonio Gala’s Turkish Passion. Mariona is an incorrigible fan of this Whoopi Goldberg film, which was a huge hit in the 1990s, so for Hot Movies she’s going to turn it inside out and upside down.

Tonight’s musical accompaniment will be provided by Meneo, the musicologist known as Rigo Pex, who’s been setting trends with his electro-tropical sounds for several years now. Who can ever forget the time he inaugurated the Spanish pavilion at the Venice Biennale or his 10th anniversary concert at the MACBA, with a set made up entirely of his own productions?
