Mover montañas

Award for the most innovative show at Valladolid International TAC Festival

More than an actor, Alberto Velasco is an essential creator on the Spanish scene. He has worked with Marta Carrasco, Chevi Muraday, Jerome Bel, Hiroko Tanahashi and Manuel Liñán, among others, and as a director, his productions have been seen all over the world, with his own quite unique and recognisable style that is constantly evolving. He is now making his first visit to the Veranos de la Villa Festival to present his latest production to the Madrid public. Moving Mountains (Mover montañas) is an invocation of the primary emotion of what we know today as folklore.

A site-specific dance piece that is not intended as a catalogue of popular folklore, but rather as a living manifesto of the need for ritual as a way to save a society that is losing its way. A call to our collective conscience which reacts with emotion to certain sounds, melodies, dances and rituals, without really knowing why. A joyous oracle of encounter and communion through the body of Velasco as a performer, and through his contemporary conscience. A free, joyful and beautiful ode to what tradition means to him. "That’s why I’m going to move the mountains. That’s why I’m going to dance".

A production by Alberto Velasco in co-production with the International TAC Festival of Valladolid and Danseu Festival de Les Piles
