Veranos de la Villa 2021
This year the city of Madrid is reclaiming the spirit of its Veranos de la Villa Festival, organised by Madrid City Council’s Department of Culture, Tourism and Sport. The festival, which will run from 6 July to 29 August, is designed to be held at multiple venues around the city. Featuring first-rate national and international cultural offerings, it will welcome artists and creators who will share their recent work with audiences.
This 37th edition will include over 50 activities spanning a wide range of disciplines: music, performing arts, circus, film, fashion, comics, gastronomy and more. The programme also stands out for its strong international element and for the presence of the Republic of Korea as its guest country. Thanks to the collaboration and support of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, and in connection with the 10th anniversary of the creation of the Korean Cultural Centre in Spain, the presence of artists from the Asian country is one of the festival’s key elements.
Its diverse, accessible, gender-balanced programme is designed for all of Madrid's residents and visitors. Music, performing arts, circus, exhibitions and gastronomy-related events are some of its cultural offerings, which establish a link between our cultural heritage and our traditions, from the Spanish Golden Age to new electronic sounds. It’s an on-site, multi-sensory, live exchange between different generations, migration experiences and styles. This edition will feature the world premiere of Bounce by Circa, produced by Australian company Circa Contemporary Circus[AL1] in collaboration with the award-winning English architecture studio AL_A. There will also be a tribute to Peruvian singer-songwriter Chabuca Grande, performed by Pitingo to mark the 200th anniversary of Peru's independence. In addition, in honour of Slovenia's presidency of the Council of the EU in the second half of 2021, the festival will host the prestigious Ljubljana Slovene National Theater Opera and Ballet.
This year Veranos de la Villa welcomes the addition of a new venue: the legendary Cloister of the Well in Instituto San Isidro, which will host some big-name acts: Nuria Espert, Lluís Pasqual and Tarta Relena, among other artists.
