Childhood in Japan

This workshop is designed to give children a closer look at what life is like for their peers in Japan. We’re not just going to try to find differences between how children live in Japan and in Spain, we’re going to explain the reasons for these differences so we can have a better idea of how they affect children’s everyday lives, habits and ways of thinking. Before the workshop ends, we’ll make a Japanese toy called a kendama, and then we’ll play with it and learn how to count in Japanese.

Taeko Kojima graduated from the Kyoto University of Education and is a qualified teacher of Japanese as a foreign language. She has extensive experience as a teacher in both Japan and Spain, at all levels - she teaches children from the age of 12 as well as adults. She has been living in Spain for almost twenty years; through her work she has been able to build bridges between her native culture and that of her adopted country. A mother of three, she lives in Madrid and is the most senior educator among the Casa Asia staff.
