El Yiyo

Born in Barcelona in 1996, El Yiyo is the latest sensation in the flamenco world. Barely twenty-four, he already has a 15-year career to look back on - he started dancing professionally in tablaos when he was just a child. No wonder people say he is the new Joaquín Cortés. Born into a Gypsy family from Jaen, albeit with no professional artistic background, El Yiyo was and is pure intuition and vocation. At the age of seven, a dancer spotted his talent at a family party, took him under his wing and opened the door to a life on the stage. El Yiyo never looked back and has been a professional dancer ever since. He embarked on his first international tour when he was barely eleven years of age and has headlined more than twenty productions.

A member of the YouTube generation: he has watched hundreds and hundreds of videos of other dancers. He has also had the good fortune to meet the great maestros since he was a child, such as Eduardo Serrano el Güito, Joaquín Cortés, Farruquito and Antonio Canales, his great references.

El Yiyo is one of the most happening dancers on the scene today, because he has the potential to be a star both inside and outside the tablao. For his elegant yet untamed dance, and for his appeal to fashion photographers and brands who have him in their sights as a model. He’s managing to keep a cool head on his shoulders though, despite all the sparks flying from his feet with all those heel taps, high kicks and sudden body movements.
