Summer wouldn’t be summer without an open-air cinema festival and the Veranos de la Villa festival wouldn’t be the same without Hot Movies, the film cycle that calls for a return to our roots of neighbourhood cinemas and those good old summer cinemas with their soundtrack of crunchy crisps and intermissions so we could obey their plea to “visit our bar”. Interruptions in Hot Movies thus become a trigger for a creative explosion that aims to restore the value of the shared artistic experience to the screening room.

The entire cycle is curated by La Juan Gallery, and for this first session, comedian and presenter Eva Soriano invites the audience to a screening of the first instalment of Wes Craven’s Scream saga (1996) featuring regular, ongoing breaks for commentary, analysis, music and whatever else creeps up behind you while you’re enjoying this well-known slasher movie. The result is a new way to watch a film that goes far beyond cinema, one that actually takes the film as a material with which to create a unique piece of living art.

The musical entertainment will be provided by Oro Jondo, the multidisciplinary artistic project of Juan Sánchez Porta, who as a DJ explores myriad influences ranging from bakalao to rap, with the occasional sortie into reggaeton or techno rumba.
