Isaac Montllor
Finished
From 19th of July to 20th of July
Duration: 240 minutes
Target audience: Aimed at trainee dancers at intermediate-advanced level (aged between 14 and 18).
As part of its participation in this edition of the Veranos de la Villa Festival, the Compañía Nacional de Danza will open the programme of events in the Central Courtyard of the Condeduque Centre for Contemporary Culture and will also hold a workshop aimed at trainee dancers at intermediate-advanced level (aged between 14 and 18).
Over the course of two days, under the watchful eye of Isaac Montllor, Principal Guest Dancer of the Compañía Nacional de Danza, they will work on a number of choreographies from the CND’s repertoire, exploring the search for movement, style, form, dynamics and musicality, using neo-classical dance as their starting point.
Isaac Montllor began his career in 2000 with the Compañía Nacional de Danza 2, directed at that time by Nacho Duato and Tony Fabre. In mid-2001, Duato offers him the chance to join the troupe of the main company, where he remains until 2008. He then takes his leave of the CND to move to Montreal to dance with Les Grands Ballets Canadiens under the direction of Gradimir Pankov. A year later, he returns to the CND where he remains to this day.
His repertoire includes more than thirty pieces by Duato, although he also works with highly prestigious choreographers such as Jiri Kylian, Mats Ek, Ohad Naharin, William Forsythe, Johan Inger, Alexander Ekman, Goyo Montero, Itzik Galili, Mauro Bigonzetti, Marcos Morau, Cayetano Soto and José Carlos Martínez, among others.
He has also created his own choreography, most notably two duets with the ballerina Agnés López: We Don’t Know (2014), which premièred at the Russafa Hall in Valencia, and In Praise of Walking (Elogio del Caminar) (2018) for the CND. In 2022, he created the choreographic work Oblitus in collaboration with the Hauser & Wirth Art Gallery, Menorca.
As a teacher, he has been invited to teach classical dance and to give choreography workshops on the Duato style at the Shanghai Dance School in China, Arcachon in France, the Royal Professional Conservatory of Dance Mariemma in Madrid, the Antonio Ruiz Soler Professional Conservatory of Dance in Seville, the Castellón Professional Conservatory of Dance, EBCDanza - Eva Bertomeu, ENDANZA 2018, IEA Oriol Martorell in Barcelona and the Ribarroja del Túria International Dance Seminars, among others.
Over the course of his career, he has participated in countless national and international dance galas, and has acted in several films: Talk to Her by Pedro Almodóvar (2002), Danse la Danse by Alain Deymier (2010) and Ixtab by María Salgado (2016). In addition, he has collaborated in dance installations for the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, the Matadero Madrid Centre for Contemporary Creation and La Pensión de las Pulgas in Madrid.
