Rafa del Calli

It is no secret that Madrid is one of the world's most important flamenco capitals. It’s the city that attracts the most people and where you can enjoy top-class singing, dancing and guitar playing every night in any number of iconic venues. Which may explain why the city is still one of the hubs of this art form, which was declared part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, and why it has an entire network of tablaos that have attracted and continue to attract the best established and young artists in the genre. Someone who falls into the latter category is Rafa del Calli, a 29-year-old singer who comes from a long line of artists, headed up by his father José Antonio Plantón Moreno, “El Calli”. We will be able to listen to Rafa at the Corral de la Morería, a venue that led the way when it first opened in the 1950s.

Since he started out in 2014, Rafa del Calli has sang at in various festivals and in prestigious theatres, shows and peñas such as Serranito’s farewell tour in Cordoba in 2021. He has won several important awards, including the first prize, the Cayetano Muriel “Niño de Cabra” Award at the Cordoba Young Flamenco Artists Competition and the second prize at the 3rd Agustín Gómez Flamenco Competition at the Cordoba Atheneum, both in 2014. In 2020, he was a finalist in the Antonio Mairena National Competition and in 2022 he won the Singing Award at the 23rd Cordoba National Flamenco Art Competition .
