Olvido

Colombian creator Jimmy Rangel arrives at the Veranos de la Villa festival  with a piece that takes its inspiration from Agatha Christie’s short stories, narrated through the physicality of the performers and inspired by mystery and surrealism. This work is a journey through fiction and reality, through solitude and the oblivion that lends its name to the piece.

In a glass house, where everything can be seen, where everything seems so fragile that it could shatter at any moment, the performers search for each other, remember each other, leave each other constant messages that they are not sure if the other person will ever hear or read. Locked in the same space, we watch as they drift terrifyingly apart, becoming ghosts for one another, disappearing.

In Oblivion (Olvido), Rangel explores suspense and terror as a narrative genre. The scenic device created for the work allows for a constant play between appearances and disappearances and casts the spectator in the special role of voyeur.  Recurring elements in the company's work appear once more: water, shadows, the manipulation of objects, disorienting sounds, the dramaturgy of light and the house as an extra everyday space.
