Marina Herlop + Angélica Salvi
The programme at the San Isidro Secondary School comes to a close with two of Spain's leading exponents of avant-garde music, no less than the Catalan artist Marina Herlop and Angélica Salvi, harpist who, after graduating from the Royal Conservatory of Madrid, lives in Porto.
A classically trained musician, Herlop has ventured into electronic music with excellent results, as evidenced by her third album, Pripyat. As she had been closely tied to the piano since the beginning of her career, this new album is what we might call a counterpoint to her two previous works: she experiments in areas such as rhythm and timbre, working with riffs, beat and vocal harmonies. Her year has been marked by international recognition, media and public acclaim, and this album, the culmination of her mastery.
Salvi, on the other hand is an exponent of improvisation in contemporary music and electroacoustics, exploring various techniques for the preparation and amplification of her instrument in search of new timbres and sonorities. The harpist invites the audience to immerse themselves in her emotional and spiritual experiences, which she uses to write the script of a dream. In this inner, dreamlike and intimate journey, the audience is guided along undulating paths, in a potentially spiritual experience, through ambiguous and multifaceted sounds: from Papé Nziengui to Alice Coltrane.
