Danza del León “Doble Suerte”

Huaide Lion Dance and Martial Arts Company from Fuyong, Shenzhen

Danza del León “Doble Suerte”

The Lion Dance (舞狮, wǔshī) is the name given to this traditional Chinese sport that integrates dance, acrobatics, gymnastics and martial arts. During their traditional festivals, Chinese people all over the world dance dragon and lion dances to ask for peace, good luck and prosperity. This age-old art has evolved and innovated down the centuries - the Lion Dance on stilts is a good example of this.

This summer, in collaboration with the Chinese Cultural Centre in Madrid and in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, the Veranos de la Villa festival programme will allow the good citizens of Madrid to enjoy this dance in different areas of the city. On raised stilts, athletes will perform the impressive and daring movements that make up the most characteristic choreographies of the Lion Dance.

Founded in 1962 and made up of more than 80 members, the Huaide Lion Dance and Martial Arts Company from Fuyong, Shenzhen will be in Madrid to present this ancient dance to the public.  One of the most prominent and active groups within the southern school of this ancient Chinese art, the company has won numerous awards in both national and international Lion Dance competitions.
