100 Cellos

Can you possibly imagine 100 cellists playing together?

100 Cellos is an ensemble of cellists born as the brainchild of Giovanni Sollima and Enrico Melozzi that will wrap up this 2023 edition of the Veranos de la Villa in the Enrique Tierno Galván Park Auditorium. A creative and innovative project where a hundred cellists come together, for one night only, to form an open and "transversal" orchestra, made up of accomplished professionals, famous soloists, students, amateurs and music lovers.

100 Cellos is an ever-evolving collective of musicians, based on a core of musicians who have been part of it from the beginning and enriched by new members at each new location in which they perform. Their repertoire covers all periods and styles, with the composition, arrangements and the four-handed direction of Sollima and Melozzi, who skilfully alternate the roles of soloist and conductor. 

Giovanni Sollima is an internationally renowned cellist and the most widely performed contemporary Italian composer in the world.  Enrico Melozzi, cellist, composer and conductor, has been assistant to Michael Riessler and later moved towards contemporary music, working with prominent musicians such as Sabine Meyer, Vinko Globokar and Jean Pierre Drouet. 

In addition, tonight from 8:30 p.m. the moments before the concert will be enlivened with music while the attendees have a picnic in the park's meadows. Thus, together we will say goodbye to this summer that is ending.
